Spotlight: Ken Fulk

While some craftspeople work with their hands to create works of art and function, others utilize their craft to orchestrate the experience. One of our collaborators who falls into this latter category is Ken Fulk and his team of creative visionaries at Ken Fulk, Inc. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Ken on multiple projects. Below he shares his thoughts on craftsmanship.

What does craft/craftsmanship mean to you and in your work?
It means delivering our clients a project that is an original, high-quality timeless creation unlike anything they imagined. Whenever timeline allows, we design bespoke elements that—in the hands of our highly skilled team of craftspeople—help conjure a carefully directed stage for a host of unforgettable experiences.

What role does lighting design play in your projects?
Lighting is crucial to setting the stage—I am constantly inspired by film and theater and when I envision a new space, I see it as a movie complete with soundtrack, characters and of course dramatic lighting! I always say that the most crucial piece of a home is a finely tuned dimmer switch.

What inspired you to embark on a project like Saint Joseph's Arts Society?
Saint Joseph's Arts Society was conceived as a counterpoint to our increasing digital connectivity; a non-profit arts organization devoted to the beauty in our lives, a place where every moment matters. It took us three years to reimagine what was a derelict deconsecrated church with National Historic Landmark status into a glorious haven and a source of inspiration for artists, patrons and the public.
