Collaboration in Lighting Design

The art of lighting design goes beyond the mere selection and arrangement of fixtures and bulbs—it profoundly influences the ambiance and aesthetics of a space. Each stakeholder in the design process brings a unique perspective to the table, which requires a lighting designer’s particular skillset and expertise in weaving together these diverse perspectives to create a cohesive lighting design.

As the above graphic shows, in the world of luxury residences and exclusive hospitality projects, our team of collaborators includes architects, interior designers, and landscape architects, as well as engineers, contractors, and craftsmen.

  • We begin each project by asking questions to gather valuable information and to understand the client’s individual needs, preferences and intended use of the space. Each project is unique, and each client may have a different preference for color temperature, light levels and lighting controls. The most successful projects are those where the client is intimately involved in the process because, in the end, it is their vision that we bring to light.

  • We listen attentively to all members of the project team, which enables us to gain a big picture understanding of the project.

  • We are proactive in our project management, responsive to the fluid design process, and engaged with the project team and the client throughout the process.  We recognize that success requires us all to “pull on the same rope.”

As an EJA core value, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. We are dedicated to developing strong relationships with our ever-growing network of collaborators, as these partnerships strengthen the team and ensure a more successful and rewarding outcome.
